About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Retail, you'll take ownership of the Moreporks Flagship in Ponsonby, leading its daily operations, sales performance, customer experience, and team.

You'll be a hands-on store manager who leads from the shop floor, sets high standards, and makes the flagship a place people want to visit, shop, and return to. You'll bring the Moreporks brand to life while building a commercially strong store and a connected local community.

What You'll Own

Store Performance and Operations

• Track performance and share regular updates with the Head of Retail, including customer insights, product feedback, and practical recommendations.
• Manage daily store operations, including opening and closing, cash handling, store security, and health and safety.
• Plan rosters with the Head of Retail to balance customer demand, team coverage, and wage budgets.
• Keep store processes organised and consistent, taking initiative to resolve issues and escalating when needed.

Team Leadership

• Lead, coach, and motivate the retail team, setting clear expectations for customer service, product knowledge, and store presentation.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and training in partnership with the Head of Retail.
• Provide regular feedback and build a positive team culture where people take pride in their work.
• Lead by example on the shop floor, getting stuck in alongside the team.

Customer Experience and Store Presentation

• Deliver a hospitable, knowledgeable, and curated customer experience.
• Build lasting customer relationships and handle enquiries, returns, and complaints with care and sound judgement.
• Own visual merchandising and store presentation, ensuring displays reflect the brand and support sales.
• Make sure the team can confidently share product knowledge and the stories behind Moreporks.

Stock and Inventory

• Own stock accuracy, replenishment, deliveries, stock transfers, and stocktakes.
• Keep the stockroom tidy, organised, and easy for the team to work from.
• Monitor bestsellers, slow-moving products, and stock gaps, working with the Head of Retail to maintain the right stock levels.
• Follow stock control procedures and take practical steps to minimise loss.

Community and Brand

• Work with the Head of Retail and community team to plan and deliver engaging in-store and outdoor community events.
• Build relationships with local customers, businesses, and community partners.
• Help create social media content that captures the store, our products, and the Moreporks community.

What You'll Bring

• Proven retail experience, with experience managing a store or leading a retail team.
• A strong instinct for customer experience, visual merchandising, and store presentation.
• Strong organisational skills, with experience managing rosters, stock, and daily store operations.
• Initiative and sound judgement: you can make decisions, solve problems, and know when to seek support.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving environment.
• A love for the outdoors, New Zealand nostalgia, and the Moreporks lifestyle.
